Choosing Dog Safe Flours for Homemade Dog Treat Recipes
The first place to start is deciding if you want to use regular, wheat free or grain free flours. (We list some preferred flours safe for dog treats on the checklist sheet). From there you want to be sure you know where to physically purchase the flours you intend to use.
Remember, a lot of healthy flours for homemade dog treat recipes need to be purchased in gourmet grocery stores or online. You want to be sure they are available before you fall in love with them.
After you choose your wheat free or grain free flours, be sure to double check that the rest of your ingredients are wheat or grain free to complete your recipe correctly. This includes checking any dog treat icing, food colorings and sprinkles that you may use to decorate with.
Write Down your Dog Treat Recipe
Next, you want to keep track on how much flour you measure out for your sample recipes, you can write it down on the checklist that we provided for you.
So if you use 1/2 cup of one flour and 3/4 cup of another flour you want to be sure to write it down. This goes for the amount of liquid you add too.... If you use 2 eggs and a 1/2 cup of water... write it down.
Add all of your ingredients into a stand mixer and add the dough hook to begin mixing. After you figure out the correct amount of ingredients that it took to mix your dough into a "play dough"consistency, you will be ready to roll out your first, secret treat dough so you can start making adorable dog treats!
Cut Out Dog Treat Shapes & Bake
Once you have your perfect dog treat dough, you can choose your favorite dog bone cookie cutter or any other cookie cutters that you love. Cut out the treats from your rolled dough and place them on a cookie sheet.
When you are ready to bake, you will need to keep track on how long and at what temperature you bake them for. We find that @ 10minutes on each side (flip them after 10 minutes) at 350 degrees works well. So, 20 minutes total. Be sure to write down how long your dog treats needed to bake, if you flipped them half way and you will be completely done. Now you have your own secret homemade dog treat recipe!
